As some of you may already know, we have all now finished our GCSEs, and in a vague attempt to fill the void formed by the loss of schoolwork (only kidding, it's great!) I decided to go back to some flash programming. We used to use flash *at* school to program games and films, until in the first term of year 11 we were suddenly deprived of this. So I thought, screw them, I'm gonna do it at home instead.
And this is what I have so far. It is based on a retro game called Raptor that some of you may have had the chance to play before. I have called it SCRAM for the simple reason that the ship you fly is a SCRAMJet and I am crap at thinking up original names on the spot. Hopefully I will have something better by the time I come to release it, if I ever do that is. The game so far seems to be running well, although being the lazy programmer that I am, most of it is hard-coded. Ah well, whatcha gonna do about it?

Here are a few screenshots of what I have made so far, just the first level (or part of it) including a boss fight at the end of it. They aren't very clear on this page from what I can tell, but you can download them if you want a better look. All the images are 640x480, since that's the resolution I making the game for. I am particuallarly fond of the 'black-hole bomb' that you can see top-left, it is utterly devastating. You'll only be getting one of them in the demo, mind you, to keep things fair. The image just below of that shows the aftermath (although that damn ship above escaped, and he's a pain in the arse to kill as well, actually has limited AI). I tend to find that I have got the hang of the smaller aspects such as the ships and bases quite well, but the bigger things, such as bosses and the main interface, will need a little work. They may be improved before first release, and I will be releasing a beta as soon as I finish the first level in full and the main interface. I am currently using James' Tankz music since the Tankz project never got finished. Let's just hope this doesn't have the same fate. You can contact me if you have any questions, suggestions, complaints etc.
