How to install and play 'ZQuake':
Guide last updated on 26th August 2005. Email me if this guide is out of date.
What is it?
ZQuake is simply a port of Quake to Palm/Zodiac. It's a free open source poject
that is upgraded now and again. Once installed, its very easy to update. But the
first time may need a bit of explanation.
Why do I want it?
Its free, open source, and a good way to play the original Quake on the go. Also,
it does look quite impressive running on your Palm, and a cool thing to show off
to your friends, since many people will heard of Quake.
What do I need to run it?
The standard gear. A Palm, FileZ (a good free file manager for Palm) an SD card,
and an SD card reader. Its also good if you have the full version of the original
quake to get the files, otherwise you (legally) have to suffice with the demo
.pak files. If you dont have an SD card reader, you can just use the .mp3 trick
to get the necessary files to your SD card. (Rename the ending of your files to
.mp3, then u can sync it to the device becuase the zodiac thinks its a music track.
Once on, track it down, and move it with 'FileZ' to the appropriate location,
see below for more details)

How do I install it?
1. Download the latest version of ZQuake here : http://www.metaviewsoft.de/en/Software/PalmOS/Freeware/ZQuake/zquake.zip
2. Open the 'zquake_signed.prc' and select to install it on the internal or SD
card (This is only the launcher file, which is less than 100kb, so its easiest
to install on Internal)
3. Hotsync the device to get the files to your Palm
4. Once you have hotsynced 'ZQuake' will appear on your device. Simply move it
to where you want it.
5. Open it to make sure that it installed properly. A menu will come up, with
a box to select the WAD. But nothing will be there yet since we haven't put the
WAD files on yet
6. Now, plug the SD card reader into your PC, and insert one of your SD cards.
7. Navigate through 'PALM', 'Programs', and in there should be a folder called
'ZQuake'. At the moment there will be nothing in that folder.
8. Inside the ZQuake ZIP that you downloaded, there will be a file called 'zquake.zdk'.
Place that file inside the 'ZQuake' folder on the SD card.
9. Now create a folder called 'ID1' inside the 'ZQuake' folder on the card. In
that folder you will place the .pak file for Quake called 'PAK0.PAK'. If you have
the PC version of Quake, just navigate through the disk and find the file. If
you do not, legally you can only play the demo. If you want to use the demo, here
is a link to download the file : Download demo .pak

10. Place the SD card back into the Palm, and open ZQuake.
11. There will now be a file called 'ID1' in the window. Leave the 'No DAA' box
unticked since it has now been signed. Go to controls and assign the controls.

Launch...
14. Quake away!
